Welcome to Caribe Sunset...one of the premier vacation rentals in Mexico! This
luxury penthouse is located on the beautiful island of Cozumel, just one block
from the Caribbean!
The penthouse spans two floors with two bedrooms, two
and a half bathrooms, and three Mexican-tiled,
whirlpool tubs, with one on the rooftop terrace
for enjoying the sunsets and evening stars. We have just added a
new palapa on the main rooftop terrace for all-day
island lounging! You can climb the spiral staircase to access the
Sunset Terrace observatory providing a superior view
of your dominion. Also, Caribe Sunset has recently been upgraded with a
pressurized water system, rare in Mexico,
which eliminates that annoying drip-drip-drip from a slow shower!
The penthouse provides mid-week maid service (daily service is available for a
small charge), purified water, linens, towels, beach towels, and a
fully-equipped kitchen. Please contact us for
information about other Vacation Rentals in Mexico!
Caribe Sunset is a beautifully appointed penthouse that will sleep
five guests. There are two bedrooms
located on the third and fourth floors. Each is furnished with a queen-sized
bed (the master bedroom has a romantic wrought-iron bed!)
and a private bathroom with whirlpool. In addition, the living room contains a
full-sized futon that can accommodate one adult or two children.
The home is full of large windows and sliding glass doors, a beautiful,
private rooftop terrace with palapa, and a balcony to capture the sunlight and the
ocean breezes that are always available. The master bedroom has a
15-foot domed ceiling that naturally circulates the cool
breezes, or, of course you can always turn on the air-conditioner. On the private
rooftop terrace there is a whirlpool and a dining area to enjoy comfortable outdoor
living.
The furniture is handmade, and the doors and cabinetry are custom-built. A
decorator brought in fabrics, tiles, and paint to create
an authentic Mexican theme in the warm colors of the sunset. To make you feel
like a true native, Caribe Sunset boasts colorful artwork that was selected from all over Mexico.
Caribe Sunset is completely up to date with AC throughout,
a fully-equipped kitchen (with convection oven and stovetop,
microwave, blender, juicer, cappuccino/espresso machine, coffee maker, etc.), VCR, TV,
cable with English channels, stereo, CD player, washer, dryer, iron, hair
dryer, winding staircase, vaulted domed ceilings, and a giant walk-in closet in the master
bedroom. There are informative books about Cozumel and its history, games, movies, and music.
We also offer a small paperback library with a “take a book, leave a book” policy!
Caribe Sunset is conveniently located in the
highly desirable and secure Corpus Christi neighborhood,
and you can walk nearly everywhere. Cozumel is a very safe island, and we always feel
safe walking through town at night. The ocean, restaurants, and shopping are just a
short stroll away. If you do need a taxi, they are readily available a block away at one
of the beachfront hotels.
This penthouse is perfectly situated for families, divers, adventure-seekers, or those who
just want to relax. Cozumels best grocery store, Chedraui,
and a brand new mini-mall are just across the street. If you like, you
can shop for fresh Mexican pastries and produce everyday, then catch a movie at the
six-screen theater in the mall. Kids will also love the
video arcade and food court (yes, they even have a
Burger King!).

The Caribe Sunset penthouse was so relaxing and in such a convenient location. We felt so lucky to
be right across the street from grocery shopping and not far from any place really. We thoroughly
enjoyed the terrace and being high above everything. It was great to fix a bedtime drink and sit
out on the terrace in the cool tropical breeze in complete privacy...
Your place is absolutely charming and just as comfortable as can be. It makes the perfect "home
base" here on the island! We loved the color scheme, we loved how you guys have it decorated, we
loved everything about it. We felt sorry for the people we met who were staying in a hotel! Our
was a much richer experience staying in your beautiful penthouse!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your beautiful condo. Not only were we
impressed by the size of the place, but the way it was decorated made you
feel you were definitely in for a good time! The rooms are huge! I also
used your kitchen quite a bit and every utensil I needed was furnished
for our use. It felt like home. We both appreciated the location of the
condo as well, within walking distance of two shopping malls and a food
market. The people of Cozumel were incredible! Very friendly and we always
felt safe there. A beautiful island with beautiful people! The beaches were
great too! The best snorkeling I've done in years with a variety of fish and
coral formations that kept you coming back for more......and that's just what
we plan on doing. We'll definitely be back and I'll give you a call.
Thanks again. Leslie

We really enjoyed our week at your lovely condo in Cozumel. We would definitely
book again on our next trip.

We had a lovely stay in Cozumel, we had a fabulous time, and loved our stay! We
appreciate the hospitality and hope to return soon. We really enjoyed the Penthouse,
and we will recommend it to our friends and family. We don't have any complaints.
My parents had a blast, it was a great memory! Thanks again!

Just thought I'd take a minute to let you know how we did at your tropical "get away".
I love the way you've decorated the place! It makes me want an extra home to decorate
myself. My boys had the time of their lives in Cozumel...but then at 17 and 18 years old,
wouldn't you too? Our last day we ate at Aquarios, the boys really thought that was neat.
We sat out on the deck in the moonlight. I wanted them to experience life as it is in
Mexico, and they did. We had no need for the air conditioner, the weather was very comfortable,
never too hot or humid. We really enjoyed our vacation, love Mexico and how easy it is to just
kick back when you're there. Thank you for opening your beautiful home away from home to us,
we'd love to go back again someday. Adios!!

Okay, Sra. Glory is very vegetarian and Sr. Pat is a carnivore. We both like margaritas and good deals, and all these pretty much fit that bill. Try a few, but check out some new ones and let
us know what you find. Tell the folks that you are staying at
Caribe Sunset and that we recommended them, and sometimes they will give you a price break!
- La Choza: Great food at really good prices. They specialize in an orange margarita that we don't like, so ask for a regular lime one and watch out! One free marg with meals (get the discount card first). They will cook your catch at a great price too. Nacho is our favorite waiter! Easy walk (stagger) home. (R. Salas at 10th Ave.)$-$$
- Pancho's Backyard: Inside Los Cinco Soles store at the North end of Ave. Melgar on the water. Go before 9 pm and browse the pricey stuff at the shop (don't buy bottles of liquor here!), and then enjoy great food and potent margs in the courtyard. Try the mole and fish served on the grills. Offers good vegetarian section on menu (try the Chiles Rellenos with Plantains and Walnuts!). Take a cab up and then enjoy the walk home through town. $$-$$$
- Pancho's Backyard at Puerto Maya: This is the cruise ship pier to the south so you are in the middle of tourist world, but the view on the water is great and the menu is the same. Live Mexican music. Smaller shop offering some of the same stuff as Cinco Sol's up north. Only open til about 5pm. $$
- Guido's: You will pass it on the way home from Pancho's on Melgar. Small, daily menu of pasta and seafood, but very romantic. Get a seat by the window in front for the view, or check out the gorgeous courtyard in the back and dine under the stars and trees. Amex and cash only. $$$
- Sea Space: This is the old location of Jeannie's Waffles. They have rebuilt the beach so you can enjoy the view and just spend the day, or dine on the street and watch the tourists wander past. On Melgar near the stop light.$$
- Prima's: Upstairs next to Ambar. Ok Italian with an attitude. Get a table by the railing and enjoy the view. Cheap Margs! Good wine selection and authentic Cuban cigars downstairs. $$-$$$
- Casa Mission: Take a cab both ways. Old hacienda east of downtown. Very good everything and free strolling musicians to go with a usually very fun evening. Ask to see the zoo! Glory loves the lions! (You will be glad you took a cab). It's sister, La Mission, is in town (see below). $$-$$$
- Casa Denis: One half-block inland off the south side of the square. Great people watching, and we think Castro ate here (if the photos on the wall are any proof)! Food is fine and the margs were much improved. $-$$
- Casablanca: Next to Casa Dennis, but closer to the square. This place is still great. We bargained for lobster and got a price reduction of $5 a piece. The free marg is good – they used gold tequila (be sure to get your free drink coupon before you agree to eat there, as it's part of the enticement). The mole chicken is huge and really good, and the cheese chile rellenos delicious. Sit upstairs on Sunday night and enjoy the free show in the square. Rudy, our Mayan waiter, will be happy to teach you all the Mayan swear words. $-$$
- Las Tortugas: Straight inland on 17th past the yellow church about 6 blocks to the next divided street, 30th. Go right about 2 blocks and it's on the main drag. I used to like the low prices but they have recently gone up! More good margs. The veggie menu is limited, but their cheese rellenos were good. Tip: Ask to see the menu that the locals get! $$
- Especias: This may have been one of our best meals. You can feast on the appetizers alone but everything is wonderful. Lots of veggie friendly fare (empanadas are to die for!). Adrian is a wonderful host, and if you hit it off will be happy to take you on an island tour. For the quality and the amount of food, the prices are a steal! Closed Sundays or whenever they run out of food! On 3rd between 5th and 10th.
- Jardin de Super Light: This used to be the "Day's Inn" and is now the Villas Caribe. Lovely location by the swimming pool and great, cheap food make this a hit. Daily specials include a veggie choice, soup and drink for $4. Dine till 7pm and spend the day by the pool. On 11th between 20 and 25 sur.
- El Foco: Cheap, late night greasy spoon place located ½ block from the square on 5 Sur. When nothing else is open and you have had many Margs, this is the place. We heard they are open until 5 am some nights! $
- La Mission: Just off Melgar a block south of the square. Same owners as Casa Mission but a livelier atmosphere. Huge filet mignon that was great at $17. Glory was not impressed with the quality of the veggie menu. $$
- Los Chilangos: This is great for lunch! Like eating in a typical Cozumeleno home. Limited menu changes daily and you sit family style. Always a veggie choice and only $4-$5 for plenty of food; you can also request half orders. Go east on 15th one block and turn left on 10th for a half block. They have a sign now, so it’s easier to find. $
- Gallo Blanco: Very attentive service and really good food make this a hit. Johnnie will even drop by your table and tell you Cozumel tales. At the corner of 15th and R. Salas. $$
- Chi: New Chinese place right on Melgar over the Pizza place. Very good for a change of pace. Sushi as well as all the regular Chinese stuff. Great views too! $$-$$$
- Pan Y Café: We had big hopes for this place…right on the water with a great view. Bad service, marginal food and attempts to overcharge ruined the meal! Don’t go!
- Plaza Leza: On the square so excellent people watching. Lot’s of happy hour deals all the time and some of the best tortilla soup Pat has found on the island. Very attentive service $-$$
- El Morro: Get directions as this old favorite is inland behind the Pemex station. Streets are dusty and this is in a little neighborhood but don’t be fooled cause it looks like a pit, as the food is great and the prices are some of the best. Mayan pork thing and chicken with ham and peas were very good. Mole was a bit salty. Our last visit prices seemed to have gone up. $-$$
- Rock'N Java: On Melgar next to Cozumel Living. Glory loves this place as it is air conditioned, very veggie friendly and you have a great view of the ocean. Huge $50 peso burger too. Open late. $$
- Café San Miguel: On 15th between 2 & 4. Nice and new with cheap lunch menu that changes daily. Very Good and lots of local appeal. Glory had the Chiles en Nogada and Pat had the Flautas de Pollo… both excellent! Also open for dinner.$-$$
- Sabores: On 5th between 3 & 5 south of the square. Great lunch find in a local casa. Walk through the kitchen and into a really neat backyard or dine inside. Great presentation. Drinks included. Menu changes daily. $
- Museum De Cozumel: Really good breakfast spot. Ocean front on Melgar. Check it out and tour the Museum for dessert. $$
- La Taqueria: Lots of meat, but a couple of nice veggie choices (try the veggie and bean quesadillas for 10 pesos!) that made Glory happy. Tell Jorge, the owner, that we sent you for a big discount! Pat liked it because no one there (Jorge hadn’t arrived yet!) knew how to make a margarita, so he got to play bartender…go figure! This place is very local, so it helps to know a little Spanish. Jorge knows lots of English and is there after 8pm.1/2 block north of Las Tortugas on 30th. $
- Mission Grill: Owned by the fine folks who own Casa Mission, this is another place loved by locals. Fish dinner for $60 pesos and Tortilla Soup for $20 pesos that could be a meal by itself. Excellent veggie rellenos. No sign but it is north on 30th just past San Francisco grocery and Covi’s liquor store on the west side of the street. $
- Le Cocay: Newly reopened to very good reviews. This a "special event" kind of place with higher prices and ambience to match. Our latest guests enjoyed it very much. On 8th north between 15th and 25th. $$$
Hint: We save a bundle by bringing
To go cups full of margs everywhere! No problems. Also order
glasses of water, as this is pure water from big bottles. Some restaurants will give you a
free little marg or a beer with dinner but you have to ask before hand.
Beware: Some restaurants in town are charging a tax on your meal.
All taxes are already included in the cost of food in Mexico. If you are charged tax, complain. If they refuse to take it off of your bill your simplest recourse is to not leave a tip. Please let us know if this happens to you.
We have avoided giving exact addresses just because the fun of finding a place comes in finding something else along the way! Please enjoy your journey!
